Darcy Tucker: 3X Memorial Cup Champion and Toronto Maple Leaf's fan favourite. The epitome of an agitator in the NHL.
Rob and Cam had a great chat with Darcy Tucker. He was considered one of the greatest agitators in the NHL. The Leaf’s fan favourite played over 1,000 games and put up some serious points and penalty minutes while winning three Memorial Cups and World Junior gold along the way.
Darcy Tucker, a native of Endiang, Alberta, played 947 regular season and 68 playoff games in the National Hockey League for the Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Colorado Avalanche. Tucker scored 215 goals and had 261 assists for 476 points in the NHL, along with 1,410 penalty minutes. Tucker was the epitome of an agitator in the NHL, a player players hated to play against but wished to have play on their team.
Tucker played on the legendary Kamloops Blazers teams of the 1990s and was captain of the team in the 1994-95 season. Darcy Tucker is one of four players in the 90 year history of Major Junior Ice Hockey to have won three Memorial Cups, the championship of Major Junior Ice Hockey in Canada. Those Memorial Cups were won in 1992 (in Seattle, Washington), 1994 (in Laval, P.Q.) and 1995 (in Kamloops, B.C.).
In 1995 Tucker also won a World Junior Championship Gold Medal while representing Canada, in the World Junior Championships in Calgary.
Darcy Tucker was drafted in the 6th Round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, 151st Overall. Always told he was too small and not fast enough, Tucker overcame these perceived obstacles and became a consummate professional ice hockey player who could play it any way you wanted - physical, skilled, defensive, offensive. In his first professional season in the American Hockey League he won the Dudley "Red" Garrett Memorial Trophy and scored 93 points in 74 games. The following season he stuck with the Montreal Canadiens where he played for two seasons and then was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1998. In 2000 he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for whom he played for nine seasons. In 2008 Tucker was signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League. Tucker had six twenty goal seasons in the National Hockey League including a career-high 28 goals in the 2005-2006 season playing in 74 games.
